David Garber / Monte Carlo
It¡¯s no surprise that many Poker Run enthusiasts are big fans of NASCAR racing ¨C the adrenaline rush that can only come from finely tuned top performance engines, responding to every twitch of the throttle, brings a thrill to the soul of fans and participants alike.

Poker Runs America Magazine, in conjunction with Drew Marine of Spokane, Washington, is proud to sponsor David Garber, of Spokane, one of the top contenders on the Northwest Late Model NASCAR circuit. David has 24 years of racing experience, and posted an impressive 3 wins and 15 top five finishes in the 18 Pacific Northwest INSSA Division races he competed in during 2006, at the wheel of the Poker Runs America Monte Carlo.

The Poker Runs America Monte Carlo is a left-hander chassis weighing 2950 lbs. The engine is a precision built powerplant featuring a Dart NASCAR block, a Scat billet super light crank, Manley titanium rods, 14:1 Venolia pistons, Dart Platinum 200cc heads with hollow titanium valves, and Cower shaft rockers. A Holley, Keith Dorton intake with Holley 830 CFM carburetor, full MSD ignition, and Schoenfield headers round out the engine package. Additional sponsors of #93 are: Lamari Painting, River City Body & Paint, LeftHander Chassis, FabTech Racing Products, Little's Tire & Alignment, Saddle Sore Inn, Pend Oreille Mechanical, Oergel Construction, Friez Concrete Pumping, and Mainstreet Automotive - Chewelah.

The complete engine was designed and hand-built by Drew Backlund, of Drew Marine, and makes approximately 625 hp at 9000 RPM.

One rule that is strictly adhered to on the circuit is that there is no porting allowed on the cylinder heads, they must remain ¡°box stock¡±. This rule serves to keep racer¡¯s costs down. Drew, while normally very forthcoming in offering engine advice to anyone who asks, has one tightly kept secret regarding his cam grinds¡ the secret grind makes the engine believe that it has more compression than it really does ¨C allowing the car to accelerate harder off the corners. In oval track racing, accelerating off the corner is extremely important in the chase for the checkered flag.

Watch for David Garber and the Poker Runs America/Drew Marine Monte Carlo to be burning up the tracks in the great Pacific Northwest throughout the 2007 racing season ¨C you can catch all the action and see the results of each race at www.inssa.org.
