THE FIRST ANNUAL BAY OF QUINTE POKER RUN/RENDEZ-VOUS SET THE STAGE FOR AN EXCITING WEEKEND

The Power Boating Canada Bay of Quinte Poker Run/Rendez-Vous July 27-29 was a resounding success with more than 40 boats and crews gathering at the beautiful facilities at Meyers Pier in Belleville, Ontario. This facility was recently renovated and redesigned, providing dockage for recreational boats of all types, as well as a full marina and restaurant facilities.

Our Bay of Quinte Poker Run/Rendez-Vous weekend featured exhibits and entertainment in the Jane Forrester Park, adjacent to Meyers Pier with slides, rock climbing walls, and a children’s fun zone. Many of the local residents and visitors from as far away as Texas and Florida enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the community’s waterfront.

The Prostate Cancer Canada “Run The Wave” team was also on-site, assisted by our tech sponsor, Telus Mobility, making it possible for the general public to make their charitable contribution to Prostate Cancer research. As a special incentive, contributors, donating $100 or more were treated to a sensational ride on the Power Boating Canada pace boat.

The Poker Run itself began Saturday morning with a driver’s safety meeting and a thorough description of the course, which took the players east to Deseronto and Picton, then back through Belleville on their way to a wonderful lunch stop at Trenton Marine.

The docks in Belleville were filled Saturday with spectators, thrilled by all the excitement as the performance boats cruised by in the traditional parade of power. At 10:30 a.m., the boats were divided into two fleets; performance boats capable of speeds of 70 mph or more; and recreational boats that would navigate the course at an average speed of approximately 40 to 50 mph.

The excellent facilities, magnificent weather and wonderful hospitality in all of the venues made the First Annual Bay of Quinte Poker Run/Rendezvous a resounding success. Many thanks to the volunteers from Belleville and the surrounding area.

In first place was Gwen and Pat Bray while Doug Johnston and Andrew Henstridge took second place. In third was Janet & Brian Lundy. The Best Dressed Crew award was won by Hotch Earl and the Best Graphics Award was won by Nathan and Cari Reid.
