The event begins August 10 at Templeton Landing in downtown Buffalo with a cocktail party and dinner where there will performance boats on display on land and the water at the Templeton Landing docks.
On Saturday, the day of the run, participants will start collecting their cards to create the best poker hand to win cash and prizes. Compared to recent years, the course has been modified to help reduce river congestion.
The run will leave Erie Basin Marina and Templeton Landing at 10 a.m. and head to the Erie Canal in Tonawanda, NY, via the east river to play card 2 (and parade their boats for many spectators along the shore). They will then head through the east river past Grass Island and Niagara Falls to the west river to play Card 3 at Grand Island, NY. Boats then will head back out to the Lake and enter the Buffalo River for Card 4 at Canalside. With all the new activities going on in the Buffalo Harbor and Canalside, the players can expect large crowds lining the banks. The boats will then advance to the lake for an open blast to Sunset Bay Beach.
The final stop will be at Cabana Sam’s at Sunset Bay Beach to allow the opportunity to enjoy a few hours of sun and relaxation. Rounding out the event is the awards reception and dinner back at Templeton Landing Saturday evening.
Once again, a portion of the proceeds of the event will go towards Excalibur Leisure Skills, a private, non-profit, volunteer, charitable organization dedicated to providing cist-free adaptive boating and fishing opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged individuals.
