The Eagle Creek Poker Run hosted by the Rochester Offshore Powerboat Association (ROPA) August 27, 2011 attracted performance boaters from various points of Upstate New York to run the beautiful waters of Lake Ontario.
Hosted at the Eagle Creek Marina in Kendall, NY, the run is a charity event in support the ALS Foundation (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and was launched two years ago as a memorial to long-time ROPA member Jim Chittenden who passed away from ALS.
The 75-mile run began at the Eagle Creek Marina and the group throttled up to Point Breeze, NY, for the first stop. After exiting Oak Orchard, the fleet traveled approximately 30 miles to the Port of Rochester on the Genesee River for the second stop for lunch.
After lunch, rough water conditions forced the group to head back early. Later in the day, the barbecue buffet dinner was held outdoors under and following dinner, it came time to announce the prizes.
The 2012 third annual Eagle Creek Run will be held August 25, while another ROPA event, the 23rd annual Seneca Lake Battleship Run, is scheduled for July 21.
Applications will be found on the ROPA website at www.rochesteroffshore.com.
