The NBA playoffs
are over. For us hockey fans up north, the NHL season
has wrapped up. We are still a long way off from the
end of the baseball season or the start of football
in the fall.
But there's still plenty of fun and games to be had
on the Poker Runs America 2007 Tour presented by Mercury
Racing. The games began with the Sarasota season-opener
with a fleet 100-boats strong. Next we took our show
to Fort Myers and put on a display that won't soon be
forgotten. Check out the calendar to see when we're
coming to your area so you can see firsthand why the
PRA Tour is the premier poker-run series in the country.
For performance-boaters in the Northeast, we'll be in
Alexandria Bay, N.Y., later this month, followed by
Lac St. Pierre and Georgian Bay in Canada and the popular
Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut in July. In August,
we're in full swing with the 1000 Islands Poker Run,
the granddaddy of them all. To wrap up the season, we're
back in Florida in Stuart on September 21-22 and the
finale in Sarasota on October 5 and 6.
One new exciting way in which we're growing the PRA
Tour is the addition of more outboard-powered center-consoles
at our events. Make no mistake, these are high-performance
offshore boats. If you need further proof, check out
our coverage on page 38 of the new world speed record
for center-consoles that Fountain Powerboats set on
the Pamlico River near the Fountain factory. With a
quartet of 300-hp outboards bolted to the transom, the
boat ran an amazing 87.6 mph. Don't be surprised to
see other manufacturers lining up to take their shot
at this record. We'd love to see a center-console shootout
with all the builders running for the title on the same
course on the same day so that a definitive king could
b e crowned once and for all.
But we feel that it's the versatility of center-consoles
that would make them a great addition to our fleets.
With their deep-V hull designs, these boats can handle
rough easily. There's plenty of room for your family
on board and thanks to their deep freeboard, they provide
security for the whole family. Many even have private
heads and small cabins forward for convenience. With
the outboards on the back, it's easy to pull up at your
favorite beach so the kids can enjoy a fun time on the
beach. So if you're a center-console owner, we'd love
to have you join us at one of our events and get in
the game yourself.
