With the recent launch of APRA (American Poker Runs Association), we have written the next chapter of poker run history.

APRA has been carefully designed to keep poker run events running smoothly without removing the key element of family fun.

APRA is a natural evolution of what we have been doing for over 14 years - organizing fun-filled events called poker runs. Yes, we insist that our event participants follow certain rules, but these "rules" are designed to ensure safety on the run. For example, our motto "Water on the water, beer on the pier" isn't an outrageous demand. Consider that poker runs are family events. Nowadays, many performance boats are capable of speeds well over the 100 mph mark. Let's say one of those boats is piloted by somebody who has just washed down his lunch with a few alcoholic beverages. Maybe they're perfectly able to handle their boat, or maybe, like driving a car, alcohol slows down reaction time or alters good judgment. Maybe nothing will happen. But the first time it does...besides which, would you really want to have somebody who's been drinking driving a performance boat next to you at speeds well over 100 mph?

Then there's the matter of life jackets or PFDs. They're mandatory on all our runs when boats are in moption. Just in case. I know in hot southern weather, they're not all that comfortable. But if a boat rolls or stuffs, they just might save a life. Ask any offshore racer to explain the value of wearing the proper safety gear.

There are a few other things we insist on, like mandatory attendance of drivers meetings, which most poker runners don't mind. After all, if you're boating in an unknown area, forewarned is forearmed.
