The
past year has been one of our most rewarding times, thanks
to the generous contributions of our poker run participants.
I have to single out two very special individuals - Oliver
and Shirin Bock, who made a significant contribution to
Sick Children's Hospital. I'm also happy to report that
the evening auction before one of our Great Lakes events
raised a staggering total of over $69,000!
Poker
runners are very much like the offshore race community.
They willingly donate their time for a good cause, especially
when it comes to children in need. Whether it involves providing
rides for handicapped and terminally ill children, "gambling"
on Charity Casino nights or bidding high to buy something
at one of the many poker run auctions, poker runners are
a rare breed.
These
special people are one of the main reasons why I started
up Poker Runs America magazine and still continue to organize
our APRA events. It's not about profit, but it is all about
making a difference. During the 16 years that we've organized
our poker runs, Poker Runs America and our event participants
have made significant contributions to the economy of the
communities hosting our events. More importantly, however,
we have also helped raise much-needed funds for a number
of reputable charities.
We've
got quite a few more surprises in store for the 2003 poker
run season. Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy this special pre-Miami
boat show issue, featuring a true gentleman of offshore
racing, David Scott, who recently earned a world championship
title driving Bacardi Silver at the APBA Offshore races
in Key West.
But
that's just the tip of the iceberg. Each issue of Poker
Runs America is carefully designed to provide our readers
with information specifically geared to performance-oriented
boaters.
From
late-breaking news and on-water tests of new models to easy-to-understand
tech articles and nation-wide poker run coverage, Poker
Runs America magazine is a unique publishing concept. Unlike
our competitors, we maintain direct contact with our readers.
We specifically target bona fide boat owners (and avid subscribers)
who are an active and integral part of the events covered
by our magazine.
We're
not in business to tell anybody where to go, we're simply
out to be the best at what we do! ( Top
