Poker Runs Wind Down, Race Season Heats Up!
As we prepare
this issue of Poker Runs America for press, the PRA
staff has just returned from our first Platinum Invitational
Poker Run hosted at the Marriott Hutchinson Island Resort
in Stuart, Florida.
This was our first all-inclusive event and proved to
be one of the most popular stops on the poker run tour.
From cruising the scenic poker run course and the luxurious
poolside rooms, to the Friday night luau and Saturday
evening banquet, poker runners were treated like royalty
in this island paradise. But what made the event extra-memorable
was the special charity event to benefit Pets Are Worth
Saving (PAWS), an auxiliary of the Humane Society of
Broward County. Before the opening of the doors for
the Saturday evening dinner, a silent and live auction,
complete with race memorabilia and high-end jewelry,
enticed poker runners to the highest bid for this worthy
cause. Be sure not too miss full coverage of the event
in our next issue.
As you leaf through these pages we will be returning
from the Suncoast Season Finale Poker Run in Sarasota,
it'll be an extraordinary end to an exciting season
as we're already expecting more than 100 boats. This
is a clear indication of the strength of the poker run
industry as a whole and a positive sign of the increasing
interest in performance boating.
Shortly, we will be walking the slips again at the Fort
Lauderdale International Boat Show, October 26 - October
30. While we've already had a glimpse of the new models
at special dealer meetings and press events across the
country, we know you'll be amazed at what's in store
for 2007. Be sure not too miss all the latest exhibits
at the Performance Alley segment of the show. On an
even brighter note, we know Ft. Lauderdale's showcasing
will be bigger than ever. Following last year's unfortunate
hurricane disaster in the area, the event is back in
full force and will be displaying the latest and hottest
models from every spectrum of the industry.
As the poker run season winds down, the racing action
heats up with the ABPA/SBI World Championships in Key
West, Florida, as well as the OSS's World Championships
in Destin, Florida. While the two racing schedules conflict,
our staff will thoroughly report on both association's
events. Watch for first-hand coverage as we follow the
racers who hone the leading edge of marine technology
and bring all of us the very best in performance boat
design. Until then, we're putting the final touches
on our 2007 poker run schedule, so watch for the new
dates in our next issue.
Hope to see you on the performance dock at the Ft. Lauderdale
International Boat Show!
